Week 6 Harvest Basket

What we got in the basket:
Salad Mix
Romaine Head Lettuce
Dill
Chioggia Beets (AKA Candy-cane Beets)
Rainbow Chard
Spring Onions
Broccoli
Strawberries

The veggies were so bright and pretty! I couldn't stop taking pictures...

I will keep you guys posted on the recipe(s) I choose from the weekly newsletter.

Y'all notice the red shoes in the picture below... that is David.

Y'all noticed the three sweets... or the NOT veggie things on the table??

He was begging me to stop taking pictures hahah... and I was hurrying myself. I mean look at them! We were ready to dig in... into our veggies and sweets of course!

Sooo here is the deal...
We pick up our harvest basket at a local bakery. Yea... so David usually picks it up, but I have been available to the past 2 weeks. I did avoid the sweets last week, because I got lost in the speciality cookware side of the bakery (I am hunting for a small wooden bowl with a top to store my Celtic salt in) BUT this week I COULD NOT. I mean the smell hit me when I walked in. I looked in the display case and already had my top choices picked out.... So I decided to SURPRISE David with some special treats because... it was Thursday and he is super awesome!
So we have a macaroon, blondie, and some sort of dream bar (that is amazing!!!).

Eat some sweets.
Eat some veggies.

Basket 2 and Herb Harvest 1

Here is Harvest Basket numero DOS!!

Snowsbend Farm
What do we have here??
First, what we do not have pictured above...
Freshly made whole wheat baguette from Mary's where we pick up our Harvest Basket
AND
Pictured above:
- 4 pints of strawberries (2 bonus packs because they ran out of fava beans... no worries we will get some next week)
- Salad Mix
- Mustard Greens
- Baby White Turnips (they gave us a rockin' awesome recipe that includes these and cumin)
- Spring Onions

SCORE!!!

I am happy to report that I did not spend any money this week on food... not a penny! David didn't either! We're lovin' this harvest time and Sunday prep day and having meals ready to go for the week for each of us :)
EXCITING!!

TADA...

First herb harvest!!! Yah! A whole basket full :)

Coming soon... a step-by-step post on how to cut herbs without killing them.

I will admit... David and I watched 3 videos to make sure we would not kill our dear ones.
And this week David bought a Herb Gardening Book lol... we will be professionals before y'all know it haha
;)

Have a great Saturday guys!
Get ready for the Easter bunny!

Week 1 Harvest Basket

Straight from Snowsbend Farm!

So once a week until after Thanksgiving we will get a harvest basket filled with veggies and fruit from the farm.
How is awesome is that??

David and I will start planning menus around what we get in the harvest basket. We will be learning how to eat "seasonally" with a few items here and there from the store.

We are very excited!

Either Thursday night or Friday I will post a picture of what we get and what it is!

Week 1:

Salad Mix (20 different kinds of lettuce including arugula, tatsoi, and mizuna)
Spring Onions (they said in the "News from the Bend" that they are super sweet)
Easter Egg Radishes
Turnip Greens
Strawberries (2 pints... score!)

If you have any recipes or tips on these feel free to share!!

Okay back to my hot tea... sickness is no fun. I am reminded of that every time I get sick.
Always a bright side though...
good timing this time. No class today just work (which was manageable), and no traveling this weekend... I am hoping to be feeling good enough to go to A-Day game though...
Roll tide!

Stay well and go eat some veggies :)
